9:00 - 10:15 DB2 UDB Scalability on Sun Solaris Barry Beach, IBM
DB2 has demonstrated strong scalability on Unix and Intel platforms. How does it scale in an open-systems environment? A long time Sun customer, concerned about their DBMS scalability, challenged IBM and Sun to demonstrate DB2 UDB performance with 1 TB of data on Solaris. This case study presentation describes the test environment and how DB2 UDB on Sun Solaris met the challenge [...]

The product allows us to simplify our production JCL and seems to reduce CPU slightly depending on how long the batch job runs. Short jobs seem to save a higher percentage. The plan name and DB2 subsystem id are read from a parameter file when the batch program first executes. To use this product we include a special load library in the JCL, add the parameter file and execute the batch program directly. We converted to this process without ever changing a single program. I like having subsystem specific software libraries so that I can implement maintenance on one DB2 system without effecting the others on the same shared DASD complex. But, I use dataset aliases. Base datasets would be like this: DB2.V510.PUT9910.SDSNLOAD and the alias would be DB2.DB2P.SDSNLOAD. Multiple systems can share the same base libraries, but have different Alias names for maximum flexibility. It makes the staging and implementation of maintenance very simple - put out a new set of libraries, and del/def the aliases a subsystem at a time - [...]

Posible problems are: not issueing a new copy in cics, executing from the wrong load lib. You need to verify that the bind step executed correctly, what library was the program linked into and what joblib/steplib was used by the executing program. The consistency token is inserted into the dbrm and the program during the precompile process. During execution the tokens are compared. If they don't match -805 results. This "is not" a locking problem. [...]

I don't see any problems just looking at it but I would try the following to see if the problem is your code or something else. In the trigger call to the sp, send the NROW as an input and add another parm as an output parm. On return use the output parm to SET the value in the NROW column and see if you get it them. This will at least see if there is an parm addressing problem somewhere in there. Also, you might consider setting one of the NROW columns to a value before passing it [...]

a couple of ways of doing this:
1) Dave Boll's RxSQL program has an interface to DSNWLI to retrieve trace records. I have now posted this to DB2-L-Documents (http://jupiter.ryci.com/archives/db2-l-documents.html). You might "think IBM should be consistent in all their products ", but they're not. Different products are written by entirely different groups of people. (Much as I would like to have a rant about this, I'll refrain.)

I'm working at a large financial institution which is gradually making the switch to DB2. During the night, we have massive batch jobs which run on a very tight schedule. 1. The running time of MODIFY is proportional to the square of the number of entries in SYSCOPY for a given (partitioned) tablespace. 2. 1 Million rows is not a very big table. You may not be able to afford every possible index for local predicates, and TS Scan for this is O.K.
However it would be very strange if the index could not be built for the join predicates, e.g. primary index and foreign key indexes for such medium sized tables. [...]

In this manner a single controller failure doesn't potentially remove a active log from service nor add the problem with archive logging you mention. I agreed that removing a mirrored volume from service within a single controller would not bother DB2 active logging. I do NOT agree that mirroring replaces dual logging to separate channels/controllers; not only from an availability/reliability standpoint, but a from loss of service standpoint as well. The failure of a RAID-1 controller, upon which you are DB2 single logging, puts you in a possible position of [...]

I looked into this question a few years ago (at the start of our Y2K project). As shipped, I don't think there is any easy wat to that format (we were looking for that format, without the dashes). All you can get are the 4 numeric formats listed in the table below. You probably could get it with some complex SQL that parsed the numeric month into the Char format you want (ie using STRING and CASE). But with a little work you can tell DB2 to display (and accept) dates in a site specific format using an exit routine [...]
