The singleton select is not necessarily OPTIMIZEd FOR 1 ROW.

When you did an explain using OPTIMIZE FOR 1 ROW, what it essentially did was, it suppressed multi-index access. As I have mentioned in my previous mail that when you use OR or non Boolean term then matching index scan is not possible and multi-index access is one alternative. Since you suppressed multi-index access by using OPTIMIZE FOR 1 ROW, the access path started using tablespace scan. It was not because you went closer to singleton select. By binding your plan with PKLIST(mycollid.*), you only bind it the once and leave it alone thereafter. As new programs get added, so new packages get added, and the plan sails sedately on regardless.

The main function of the plan entity in a package environment is authorization control. This contains two zip files called db2java.zip and runtime.zip. You have to include this folder in the classpath. So Class path should look like :

C:\SQLLIB\java\db2java.zip;C:\SQLLIB\java\runtime.zip;C:\SQLLIB\java\sqlj.zi p;C:\SQLLIB\samples\java;C:\SQLLIB\java\jdk\bin

and Path should be

C:\SQLLIB\java\jdk\bin;C:\SQLLIB\BIN;C:\SQLLIB\FUNCTION;C:\SQLLIB\SAMPLES\RE PL;C:\SQLLIB\HELP;C:\SQLLIB\java\db2java.zip.

"On the other hand, if your application does sequential batch insertions for which the input data is not in clustering sequence, there can be excessive contention on the space map page for the table space. VPSEQT - pages retrieved sequentially on behalf of list prefetch will be in the that area. It does not matter by what sequential method they were brought into the pool.

You query qualified the whole table. But due to statistics, the access path selected when using the host variables picked list prefetch. At run time, once 25% of the rids were qualified, you should have fallen over to a tablespace scan and would have seen the rows immediately from then on. Try to connect to sample at your Solaris server. It will work or you will get the SQL1032 message. If you get the 1032 message db2 isn't started. 'su - ' to your instance owner and enter the db2start command. If the connect at the server works you have to check your db2diag.log for error messages related to the TCPIP protocol, it probably isn't started. One performance consideration that you should think about is the potential disparities between the processors. When you bind a plan on one processor and it gets run on another processor, you may have access path surprises. Although this is true in a parallel sysplex environment as well, I understand that in Version 6 of DB2 (OS390), IBM has scaled down the weighted value of a processor ,s performance in the optimizer. A couple of additional points to explain what Member Clster actually does to solve the problem.

Since multiple members of a Data Sharing env. could be fighting each other to update the same space map page, and for BP coherency, page p-locks are used to negotiate who has control of the latest copy of a page at any point in time, too much elapsed time for this contention. You need to do A FREE PLAN first to get rid of the DBRM before adding it back in as a package. Version 5 converted those programs used by DCLGEN, spufi etc. to packages, but when you execute the program I think it is picking up the old DBRM and of course the timestamps for the DBRM (probably from version 4) and your version 5 load module do not match. I guess part of going quietly is not telling anyone that they can drop the database.

It has been a while, but I think it was somewhere in the chapter on Migration to version 3 procedures.

We've always had problems with this application, but it wasn't causing this much trouble last week. The application was written with SQL*Windows, which I've been told generates the SQL based upon criteria entered by the user. A lot of the SQL is nasty (one is a 4 table join with subselects 2 or 3 deep). They can't change the SQL since it is generated, so that's not an option. Don't ask me why it was allowed to go into production in the [...] 14253 119 35_Re: -818 error in DCLGEN from SPUFI12_Bing Alabata25_bing.alabata@MCMASTER.COM31_Fri, 31 Mar 2000 18:13:42 -0600465_us-ascii Just an addendum to my initial posting on this -818 DCLGEN issue:

Mike is right. If you rerun the DB2 installation clist with an install option, it will generate a

BIND PLAN(DSNEDCL) PKLIST(DSNEDCL.DSNECP68) - ISOLATION(CS) ACTION(REPLACE)

in the DSNTIJSG installation job which will not be the case with a migration option. Thus, if you installed (vs. migrated) DB2 V4, you will not encounter the -818 error when running DCLGEN. [...]
