I think it depends on what you consider Cloning. If you've got only one SMP/E environment, what about all the associated products? Got QMF? DB2PM? Data Propogator? DB2 Online Help? Tivoli? Don't forget to include all the appropriate FMIDs in your calculations.

Luckily SMP/E contains all the information you need (I think). Just allocate libraries corresponding to all of the DDDEF entries corresponding to your target/distribution libraries. I believe that sample job DSNTIJAE does this already, so I suggest you start there. Uncataloged image copies use the volser along with the dataset name to make a unique entry. You just have to be sure you don't reuse a tape for an image copy while it's still in syscopy. You'd think the chances of that one tape becoming scratch and being mounted for that tablespace's image copy would be low, but we had more than a few failures from it. We do this. We have a single SMP environment with multiple zones. Each zone refers to a single DB2 subsystem that has its own DB2 libraries. This way we can apply fixes to one environment at a time ( Assuming you don't have the SDSNLOAD dataset linklisted in an MVS partition with multiple DB2 subsystems). The distribution libraries ( ADSNLOAD, ADSNMACS etc ) are shared by all subsystems development and production. ie we only keep one copy of them. If you want to load the data into a Db2 unix table and you have a db2 connect connection between the unix box and the OS390 Db2 subsystem. Connect to the os390 subsystem from the unix box and use the export utility that comes with unix db2 to export the data onto the unix box in ixf format, the export utility will do the ascii/ebcdic conversion for you. You are correct, the mapper table is cleared after a successful REORG but this does not necessarily mean that statistics are pointless. E.G. If you are REORGing a tablespace that has 10,000,000 rows the optimiser may find this information useful in determining the access path. My understanding is that the online REORG only uses the index on the mapping table when doing a REORG and the table is only there so that an index can be created. So, would statistics be any use? Probably not, but not for the reason you stated i.e. because it's a temporary table [...] 5084 89 66_Re: Quick question about DB2 for AS400 (migration to DB2 for S390)17_Massimo Biancucci30_massimo.biancucci@T-SYSTEMS.IT30_Fri, 9 Nov 2001 11:06:33 +0100488_us-ascii U'r not wrong !!!! :-)

Sleepiness can do that ... been there! A few questions.

Where did you "enter" the command. DB2I? If DB2I, were you connected to the appropriate subsystem via DB2I defaults? Logged on to the correct TSO?

If entered via Operator console, then:

What is/are the subsystem recognition characters of the DB2 subsystems (per your IEFSSNxx member of ParmLib). Some documents that compare different DBMSs or operating systems assume that you don't have any existing infrastructure, and they compare every feature imaginable. Take an Image Copy, Alter and then recover on the LOB tablespaces. Then it will reflect the new allocation.

SHRLEVEL=NONE is the only shrlevel allowed on a LOB tablespace. (V6)

REORG on a LOB tablespace just removes embedded freespace and attempts to get the LOB pages contiguous.

The easiest way to merge the extents is the method James Campbell mentioned: DFDSS to move the cluster.

The problem is possibly due to long running query job which hold on to the claimer when your reorg job draining all the claimers. So even with SHRLEVEL CHANGE, you might not solve the problem.

Solutions. - Find out why those read only query take so long. May be have some commits in your query programs? - In DB2 V7 there are new options DRAIN_WAIT and RETRY which will handle this. Drain_Wait over ride the default time out value and allow you to specify long waiting time and Retry allows you to re issue drain after it failed. I don't know what kind system you have. However if it takes 4-5 hours to return a query, there might be some design issues. How do you populate your database tables? Would there be any lock contention while you populating the table and running the long query at the same time? There is no way that I know of to issue commit at the regular interval. Can I add REPAIR LEVELID ? I tested it and when you run REPAIR not only the down-level indicator is updated, but HPGRBRBA is filled with zeros as well. So after a REPAIR LEVELID you have no base for RECOVER LOGONLY.

As regards the -STOP DB : HPGRBRBA is updated by Buffer Manager so if you have no updated pages when you stop the TS no page is marked as updated and it's not in any write pending status so the page is simply kicked off via LRU (or FIFO if selected in V6) queue. You say 'But if you are not doing a LOGONLY recovery then recovery does use the HPGRBRBA'. I think it's the other way around. It IS used in a LOGONLY, but NOT if it is using the SL REF copy as input.

If you have the HPGRBRBA value then the BSDS will tell you all the archive logs you MAY need. You might try REPORT RECOVERY, depending on what SYSCOPY entries you have. This will work for the sample of data which you provided. However, if there were a NOM value of 50 with a corresponding DATA value of 800, it would not. The SQL as it is structured now would cause your NOM value of 50 not to be deleted, and you would still end up with duplicates for DATA values of 250 and 350. You may be better off using a NOT EXISTS condition with a correlated subquery matching on NOM and DATA as proposed. I've made the same experience, but I think, DB2 doesn't do any prefetch, because the first page is always read synchronously and then prefetch is set up for 32 pages. If they're not committing you're probably going to have locking problems if you use a program to INSERT the data (unless you're adding all the data to the "end" of the tables). A lot of what you are asking really depends on whose REORG you are using. Several reorgs on the market today only perform acceptably if you drop your NPIs before the REORG and rebuild them afterwards. IBM recommends this, and I've been in some shops that have BMC Reorg+ that use this process as well. I don't really understand it though (well, I guess I do...). I need to know what kind of system overhead would be involved with the RRS sub-system / started task. We are CPU constrained. Hence the need for WLM environment control, 390/Z-OS Control Center SP's and eventually the unsupported single SPAS. I welcome all your experiences regarding this matter. I have been waiting for someone to respond here. No-one has, so I shall try. I'm a novice in this area.

My guess is that it will, in general, default to JDBC. But then it may depend on the quality of the vendor's containers. As far as the Z/OS and OS/390 environment, IBM is not quite there yet. The EJB 2.0 spec introduces an EJB query language, based on SQL92 which I presume leads to a JDBC call by the container. Others are talking about using XML to communicate between the EJB and the container and this will lead [...] 19827 162 24_Re: Resource Limit Error13_LOMBARD,Shaun27_Shaun.LOMBARD@DEWRSB.GOV.AU31_Wed, 14 Nov 2001 08:34:11 +1100296_iso-8859-1 Scott,

You say this started happening after installation of V6, which means PLAN names could have changed. eg. QMF510 to QMF610. Depending on how you set up RLF, your rows might not be valid anymore. At this point, QMF must finish FETCHing the remaining rows from the database, so that the report can be fully formatted. Someone else has already suggested the Utilities Guide, which is actually pretty good. I don't know why sometimes you get the actual resource name and sometimes you get the DBID/OBID combo but it's a database name and a table name. I don't see this format often so it usually throws me for awhile. I spend time looking in Sysindexpart and Systablepart looking for an OBID there, and of course I don't find it because it's in Systables. You have specified OPTIMIZE FOR 1 ROW on this query, so DB2 knows that you only want 1 row. If you are fetching more, then you are providing false information to the optimizer.

DB2 has the choice of a 3 level index plus data access, or a 4 level index. Both requiring 4 getpages (potential I/Os) to get one row. To get one row, clusterratio is irrelevant, so is the amount of statistics (in this case), and so is whether it is indexonly or index + data. What is important is how many getpages. Sequential prefetch should only be chosen by the optimizer if it determines at bind time that greater than a set limit of pages will be read sequentially. List prefetch is chosen for a low clusterratio index if 2 or more pages are being read, or greater than 1 and less than that for sequential prefetch for a high clusterratio index. Not urgent, but I'm using CM to resize a whole lotta objects that are multiple extent. The client is DB2 for OS/390 V5 and CM is V5.4.03. My question is, can anyone tell me why CM is generating stop, alter, start commands when it changes the priqty of the objects instead of just issuing the alters? As of V5 (I think, or possibly V4) you don't have to stop an object to alter its priqty or secqty. So what gives? Is CM being awkward? Is it 'user error' and is in fact an option somewhere? You said:

Sequential prefetch should only be chosen by the optimizer if it determines at bind time that greater than a set limit of pages will be read sequentially.

Well, I explained a little query: SELECT * FROM DB2.AATB0909. CARDF for this table is 1 and NPAGES is 1. Explain shows a tablespace scan with sequential prefetch. Even if I change the query to SELECT * FROM DB2.AATB0909 OPTIMIZE FOR 1 ROW, access path remains the same. That doesn't fit to your explanation. Do you have access to the softcopy manuals? For example here: http://www-4.ibm.com/software/data/db2/os390/v6books.html

Enter PROCMS in the search box, and you get four books that contain the word. How hard is this?

Processor time is the time that the CPU is executing instructions. It does not include wait time.

I suggest you read an English dictionary for the meaning of the word "doubt". It has two meanings: 1) you think that I might be telling an untruth, 2) you have not decided if I am telling the truth (or not). You are using an old release of Change Manager - this was resolved soon after the fix to DB2 V5 was made available. There is a Zap which you can get from our support site on the web or from Product Support to amend this behaviour. I would like to put a check on a column which can only accept certain values (CHAR or NUMERIC).

Your help will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

We currently have Oracle and Oracle Apps running on Sun Solaris boxes. We wanted to create a backup and recovery plan which includes hot and cold backups of the Oracle database. Our original plan was to use Oracle's rman and then connect rman to Tivoli. Oracle says this can be done but they are not sure how to do it. Especially the rman to Tivoli piece. It works well on a new table.

If you are adding a column constraint to an existing table, you will need to verify your data meets the new constraint rules. You can set CURRENT RULES to STD or DB2 depending on now you want things handled. At a previous employer we used them extensively. Although you could get much discussion on this, I would rather have data integrity control in the database than in the application. There are some issues with unknown values, defaults, etc but nothing that can't be worked out and check constraints actually implement the part of Codd's rules that deal with "domain" checking as check constraints are really defining the domain of values that are valid for a given attribure. Did you try performing a -START DB(name) SPACENAM(tsname) ACCESS(FORCE) Against the tablespaces the utilities are against?

Force usually resets the utility restrictions.

What I would do is copy everything from that database to another, drop the the original database, wait until there are _no_ other utilities in the system, and then run the install steps which populated SYSUTIL, SYSUTILX and their indexes. As stated earlier, I would look at the nlevels for this index. If it is now 3, then 3 getpages is less than the 4 required to use IX1 + data access. When the nlevels for IX2 was 4, then it really didn't matter which of the two access paths were chosen, as both required 4 getpages. The quote is correct in most situations, just doesn't apply to tablespace scan. All tablespace scans use sequential prefetch, but sequential prefetch will be disabled at runtime if the space map page determines that less than 4 pages will be read. But this is only for segmented tablespaces.

I believe this is the scenario that you had hinted at in a previous post. [...]
