I don't believe so. There is no guarentee that your newly recreated database and all its objects will have the same IDs. (i.e. OBID).
You will probably have to use DSN1COPY to map the IDs on the Image Copy to the new IDs in SYSCATALOG.
See DSN1PRNT (for getting the old IDs) and DBN1COPY in the Utility Guide and Reference. [...]

If this is a real concern, prevention is probably the best medicine. Create tables "with restrict on drop" which will not allow the database or tablespace(s) to be dropped until the table(s) is/are altered.

Unbeknowst to us at the time, this particular REPRO job was missing the RECFM and the LRECL and while the REPRO would successfully finish each time we were unaware that it wasn't usable in a recovery situation. If you run a formatted DSN1PRNT against the page in question, you should see a field labeled PGSOBD containing a hex value for the row's corresponding table. Once you're converted this value to decimal, you should be able to query the catalog for a matching table within the tablespace.

If you have a 32K work tablespace defined in DSNDB07, it can be used by Sort even if the sort record length does not exceed 4K. I think that DB2 spreads the workload over all available work tablespaces except where the sort record size is greater than 4K, in which case it cannot use the 4K work tablespaces. [...]

If batch applications are not performing commits properly, yes you may have a problem. Also, commits should not just be considered based on a unit of work count, but also based on time. If a batch application is swapped out it still holds locks and the unit of work count is not increasing, but if you are also doing commits based on time when the program becomes active again the [...]

It is clear that your shop has no Standard regarding commits. That is really where your problem is. Applications should issue commits based on a number of rows updated (loop counter) or time period. If they don't, you could see rollbacks taking up to 2x as long to backout changes that were not committed. Thus resulting in an even longer period of data unavailability. Also, if you have a long running batch job with no commits and the subsystem crashes you could be down for hours, [...]

Unicode is in the present for many customers, even when they don't know it. Java uses Unicode. EBCDIC and ASCII platforms are moving to Unicode and using Unicode for more effective translations. Unicode support is in DB2 for UNIX & Windows V6, DB2 for z/OS & OS/390 V7, OS/390 V2R8, and in the z/Architecture & zSeries instruction set. So you will be moving to Unicode, if you're not already there. [...]

I have a UDF written in C that selects a row from a table, and returns the result. I have defined my UDF as READS SQL DATA. I move the host variable to my return argument without changing it. I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to manipulate the variable in your UDF before returning it. My UDF reads a table of "logical" to "physical" remote DB2 locations. We use this for programmers using the connect statement so that they don't have to hard code locations when moving code to another subsystem. My UDF is [...]

If you use the image copies as input to your recovery, then the log does take part, but it is not a LOGONLY recovery. It then uses the RBA in the header of the dataset to find which archive log it needs to do the recovery of that dataset. Once it finds the archive log it does FAST LOG APPLY and bring that [...]

just a very short description....
MAXRO specifies the amount of time for the last iteration of log processing for the online REORG. Specifying a small positive MAXRO value reduces the length of the period of read-only access - but it might increase the elapsed time for your REORG to complete.
LONGLOG designates how DB2 will react if the number of records that the next log processing iteration is not lower than the number that the previous iterations processed. [...]

Some time ago I heard that MVS applications (that display ASCII encoded data) actually receive the data as EBCDIC.
But these MVS applications sort the data using the ASCII collating sequence.
May that be the reason for your "data in wrong format" ?

There are several standard formats available. As long as you specify the same format on all sites, you don't have a problem with any date/time handling. However, if you mean that you want to support the standard format for each site, then you'll probably need to 1) choose a standard format for internal handling of these fields within your application, and 2) provide parameterised conversion routines to convert to/from the site format. As for explicit format specification, take a look at the CHAR function ... you [...]

When developing an application that must be transportable between locations that may have different date defaults, it is best to always use the CHAR(expression,date_format) function. The date_format will override the local default. See the CHAR function in the SQL Reference manual.
Hope this helps.

Setting CARDF to 2 will enable the optimize clause and subsequent disabling of sequential prefetch.
The only guaranteed way to disable prefetch, as suggested earlier, is to set VPSEQT=0. Allocating these small tables to their own bufferpool, setting VPSEQT=0 (and possibly using FIFO to minimize queue management overhead), is the suggested method rather than having to code the OPTIMIZE clause for alll SQL statements. As demonstrated by Walter (and explained above), the OPTIMIZE clause is sometimes ignored in this situation. [...]

Check out the section "Order of evaluating predicates" in the DB2 Administration Guide, or DB2 Application Programming and SQL Guide.

I will give a try. The answer you will get from others probably is "it depends". I will only give you some factors that will help you to make the decision. 1) There is no need to create an unique index unless you have a requirement to make sure it is unique. 2) Unique key and duplicate key have different internal structures. For non-unique index, duplicate keys will be linked together. Ie if you have non evenly distributed data, then some keys will takes longer time to update. 3) If some fields are frequently accessed, then you might consider [...]

http://jupiter.ryci.com/cgi/wa.exe?A2=ind0008C&L=DB2- L&P=R4949 is one way of handling it.
Another, if you are "strictly" concened with moving data from production to development, say, is to have interspersed numbers: Prod uses START 1 INCREMENT 2; dev uses GENERATED BY DEFAULT START 2 INCREMENT 2. The numbers generated in production can never match those generated in development. [...]

1) If COLX is COL3 then option 1 will probably be best - because DB2 will be able to satisfy the query using the index alone.
2) If COL1, COL2, COLX is clustered (ie data rows in the same order), this will be next best - since DB2 will (probably) trigger pre- fetch to suck data rows in. [...]

I couple of points come to mind regarding your query and index makeup. The first is that if your application already knows what the values are for COL1 and COL2 within your SQL statement since each are being tested with equal conditions, then it is not necessary to include them within your list of selected columns. As far as whether to include an additional column to your index (COL3), specifically to accommodate this SQL statement, I would say that it would be worth the effort. This would allow for index only access, and this index was not the clustering [...]

There could be any number of reasons why the two environments differ in their access path selection. Different statistics, different releases or even maintenance levels of DB2 (hence potentially different optimizer cost models).
I believe the optimizer considers a 3 level index + data access as a cheaper option than index only on a four level index. This is regardless of the fact that there is more liklihood of finding the index page already in the bufferpool, since an index page can generally fit more rows per page. [...]

Adding candidate volumes of * is essentially the same thing that DB2 does when it has a stogroup of volume(*). If you already have a clustering index on table, TB, and the columns belonging to this index does not contain COL1 and COL2, but contains COLX (and COLX is a high order column in the clustering index)....then, adding COLX to the new COL1 and COL2 index (to make it unique) can improve the clusterratio of the new index. When I use the word, improve, what I mean is that clusterratio may improve over an index with COL1 and COL2 only under the same scenario. Again, test this before you decide to implement. [...]

Couple suggestions 1) Do you have to drop the NPI? Are you loading the whole table or just some partitions? What shrlevel you are using while loading? With resume yes, NPI is updated instead of being rebuilt. This might save you some time.
2) IBM V7 and some third party load utilities allow you to have online load which means you don' t have to drop your NPI. Of course it will depends on how many rows are being load each week. If you are loading 1.5B rows each row, then it probably won't work. If you are loading [...]

I made a very rough estimation with IBM Xtimator, but I doesn't like it because I couldn't simulate a CREATE INDEX , I try with REBUILD INDEX but it heavy depends on I/O subsystem (I use RAMAC-3 as DASDs) . Moreover the table/index are 'simulated' (ie I added columns until I reached the given table/index record length). I simulate your CPU using a 9672 y76 (approx 800+ Mips) and I supposed a 50% BP hit. Yes, any existing packages (corresponding to other versions and/or fixpack levels) will not be affected except for the following caveat:
Theoretically only new packages would be bound with a new version, however, we encountered a painful situation where "old" existing packages, for which previous releases were dependent, were re-bound. No documentation or even the little utility which lists the packages to be bound had warned us of this. The result was a total lockout of production workload for around 5 minutes while the dependent packages were locked during rebind. [...]

For example: table branch_table column branch, name table branch_auth_table columns branch, sqlid view branch_view select t1.branch, name from branch_table t1, branch_auth_table t2 where t1.branch = t2.branch and t2.sqlid = current sqlid The authority table could control which sqlids could see which branches, and secondary authids could be added to enable different people to see different groups by setting their sqlid to the different ids. To configure Visual Explain, you will first have to configure a DB2 ODBC connection. You will require some form of connect software that is compatible with DB2. The software will depend on the operating system from which you wish to connect. For example, if you have a unix based client, you will need to dig deep and buy DB2 Connect EE / UE or equivalent. For windows/Linux, you can try DB2 Connect Personal Edition. Take a look at http://www-4.ibm.com/software/data/db2/db2connect/ [...]

I'm looking an INSERT statement in an application program in Omegamon for DB2. Omegamon reports: SQL Request Type = DYNAMIC SQL Call Type = INSERT SQL Statement Number = 00991
I don't recall seeing DYNAMIC for other INSERT statements. The application has inserted about 4.5M rows into this table and has been running about 21 hours. Just a bit (!) longer than expected. It has about 2M more to go in this run, with 3 more similar runs scheduled. The 4 runs should be add about 30M rows. [...]

At least we got the -904 messages on 5 of them in the MSTR address space. So, we're going to increase it to 6 so we can use all 7 work files.
Is there anyone out there that can explain what these fields mean on the accounting long report? [...]

There has to be logic applied to the input record (data modification) based on which table the record is going to be inserted into. I realize this implies that the app actually inserts into 2 tables. Yes, that is correct. However data volumes are such that the table referred to in this insert will receive about 6M of the 6.2M input records......... [...]

If you hadn't noticed, the major difference between Georg's SQL and Thomas', is that Thomas' will not pick up any user created indexes which do not have SYSIBM as their creator-id. Personally, I go for paranoia and use SYSINDEXES.DBNAME = 'DSNDB06' since there is no guarantee that every table in the catalog will use SYSIBM as its creator. (Does now, but what about V10?) [...]

Your END sub-command is left in the data stack - ready to pop up when you least expect it to.
I always put a "newstack" before and a "delstack" after playing with the data stack. That way I make sure I discard what I don't want. [...]

Hence, it is not that the packages are compatable, but rather each platform/version/fixpack has its own.
