If you want to query one subsystem from another, you could go into QMF and 'Select * from ssid.Sysibm.Sysdatabase' and see what happens. Or, in SPUFI, you could give the ssid at the '10 Connection Location' field and try to connect there. [...]

Unfortunately, the directory and catalog ate all VCAT defined and not STOGROUP defined.
The official solution to this is:

Is that a logical inference from the fact that Grace found differences, or based on an expectation that people will generally run both STOSPACE and RUNSTATS?
I'm asking because we don't run STOSPACE on any of our systems (at least, not that I know of), and I haven't felt that my life has been negatively affected in any way, so either STOSPACE is pretty useless or I don't know what I'm missing. Some thoughts:
- does the SP return the results of the FETCH/UPDATE to the caller? That is, is the application actually reliant on the SP results, or does the application just need the SP to have worked? If the latter, move the SP call to immediately before the COMMIT/SYNCPOINT.
- can you ignore failed txns? That is, can you move the SP call to the first thing in the txn (returning something), do a commit, do normal processing, then do something to clean up the situation immediately before the final syncpoint. This may require copying data to a row [...]

In the windows environment, there is a built-in similar functionality - but not as useful and versatile as cron. For remote access with DSNTEP2, you have to have the same package (DSN@EP2L) at the remote and at the local site, with the same timestamps.
So you would have to do a BIND on the remote subsys with the same DBRM. Or, you could use the BIND with keyword COPY to copy the package from the local subsys to the remote subsys. Please read the manuals for the correct syntax. [...]

why is your user concerning himself with how the data is partitioned ?
Partitioning is a physical design consideration, usually implemented to allow parallelism, speed up utilities or physically spread the data across devices. This is typically a decision made by the application developer and the DBA.
In my experience, the choice of partitioning key has usually been based on balancing the partition sizes and not related to any meaning in the key - I would suggest going back to the logical design to see why the 11th digit of 12 has a meaning all by itself. Should it [...]

IBM said it better than I could have. Out of IBMlink:
DB2 Accouting Trace Class 2 will cut an IFCID 121 record when DB2 is entered from an application and an IFCID 122 record when DB2 completes processing and returns control to the calling application. In each case, the IFCID 121 and IFCID 122 records are followed by a call to Timer Supervisor module IEAVRT05 for a timestamp. This results in the High CPU usage seen in IEAVRT05. We're not DB2 V6 here, but were at the last site I was at where I had a play with EA-enabled datasets. I'm pretty sure the tablespaces/indexes we had that were large (DSSIZE 32) we stogroup-defined. That recommendation is based on DB2 giving a very small weighting based on the order of tables. We have an OLTP CICS application running on OS/390 that uses a network database (SUPRA) that we want to convert to DB2. One of the requirements to the conversion is (obviously) to reuse of as much application code as possible. The SUPRA database is quite large and a conversion of all the data at once doesn't have much appeal, so we are investigating a staged approach. This raises recovery questions with regard to updates within a single unit of recovery that span SUPRA and DB2 - as DB2 supports two phase commit, but SUPRA doesn't. [...]

we have a somewhat similar design here. From your specifications, a partition will be around 8GB, which is quite a monster. Let's summarise the options:
SQL DELETE: The operation is logged, so it produces around 8GBs of logging. If you issue a single DELETE ...WHERE IDPART=.., the partition will be unavailable. So you need a SELECT Cursor WITH HOLD FOR UPDATE OF, and issue a DELETE WHERE CURRENT OF... for each row, with COMMITs every few 1000 rows or so - complicated (I haven't looked up the exact syntax). Then the data will be available for other jobs/users. [...]

5386 cylinders will equate to 3877920 KB (3.7 GB)- you get approximately 720 KB per cylinder (48 KB per track = 12 4KB pages)

Your Insert/Update rate isn't so high that more than one COMMIT is likely to be processed in one go. 38 ms, as in your case, sounds excessive for modern HW but not drastically so. Check your log datasets: are LOGCOPY1.* and LOGCOPY2.* on different disks (absolutely necessary normally; not sure about PAV), different channels (preferable), and different disk hardware (desirable)? I don't know if there is any 'smarter' way to determine whether your tablespace object need to run stats or not.
Using STOSPACE will give you some indications, however even if the size of your tablespace objects remain the same does not mean you don't need Runstat.
A better way is to use 'Online Stats' which will be available in next version (V8?) to trigger a runstat job. [...]

As an earlier post said, DB2 does not use all 56,664 bytes on a 3390 track. There is DB2 space and allocated space. DB2 will put 12 4k pages to a track for 48kb/trk or 720kb/cyl. This is why the allocated DASD exceeds the DB2 space.

If that is true will all of the UDB code be the same? If not anyone know what is different?
