A couple years ago I fought with this same error message. I looked and looked in IPNAMES and LOCATIONS, trying to find something that didn't look right. Eventually an IBMer clued me in that the message was useless, and what the real problem was. By then I had D31057 imprinted on my brain I think, because I see that message and I immediately think private protocol. The biggest change for LOGLOAD came with fast log apply in V6. Before that, reading and applying the log took two to ten times longer. So LOGLOAD of 100,000 to 200,000 in V5 meant longer restarts, while V6 and up can tolerate half a million or a million. For me, the key to LOGLOAD is how long can the restart be. In V5, the rule of thumb I used was each extra 100,000 in LOGLOAD meant an extra 5 minutes for restart. Some of the foils and notes are on [...] 345 89 34_Re: DB2 log switches/checkpointing16_Raquel Rodriguez28_raquel_rodriguezus@YAHOO.COM31_Sat, 29 Mar 2003 09:32:28 -0800383_us-ascii Thanks Mike, Juan, Issac. I think I was not clear about what I wanted to know. I do know that all the restart information (including oldest URs, pending database writes, restrictive statuses etc.) has to be in the log as a part of checkpoint or otherwise. As I understand, checkpoint merely writes this information about pending writes that it obtains rom 'somewhere'. use this law without any problem) and so exploiting a 'business opportunity' as some US experts called it. I think that

many IT companies would have done the same. No one, all over the world, is free from this trend in IT field. [...] 662 56 34_Re: DB2 log switches/checkpointing11_Mike Turner29_Michael_Turner@COMPUSERVE.COM31_Mon, 31 Mar 2003 04:00:25 -0500626_ISO-8859-1 Raquel

The information is not in the buffer pool. DB2 has many in-memory control blocks which it uses to control its processing, most allocated in the DBM1 address space. There is not much published information about these control blocks, but there is some description of the linkage between them in the Diagnostic Guide and Reference manual. There will be (at least) one control block for each pageset that records information about the status of that pageset. There will be (at least) one control block for each UR that records information about that UR. The control blocks are continually updated by [...] 719 14 29_Re: DB2 UDB 8.1 and Linux/39013_Thomas Schulz20_thomas.schulz@SVI.DE31_Mon, 31 Mar 2003 04:06:47 -0600323_- Hello

No particular problems. Only real consideration is that you pick a BLKSIZE which works for DASD. That BLKSIZE is less thatn 100% efficient for tape, but the best tape BLKSIZE is *HORRID* for DASD.
