DSN1COPY is out of the question, we only keep 2 image-copies, unfortunately the five partition-copies we still have (well, had last Friday, I haven't checked today yet) weren't of any use.

Looks like we're actually doing what Ken suggested, and finally we got good arguments to convince our higher-ups to actually buy one of the many products around. Here's my 2 cents....

I don't know how it affects your case, but, log analysis tools may require previous image copies to complete the rows if the compression dictionary has changed and/or if you do not have data capture changes on for the table you're trying to recover.

We generally have lots of storage available; some of the VBP's in data spaces are up to 120,000 pages. Yes to op sys and machines. John Campbell was here with Hugh Smith last March and gave a two day presentation - we discussed the data space versus VBP/HP issue at that time. We are Z/OS 1.2 running V7. Was wondering if anyone else mave have run across the reason code, 00C20049, because it doesn't exist anywhere, that we've been able to find. The dataset was in 183 extents so it hadn't hit the max yet. It had however, gone into 7 datasets due to the size of the table. To correct the issue, we stopped and started the tablespace. Then for good measure, after we had the application up and running, we [...] 4781 143 20_Re: DB2 Connect v7.29_Alex J.P.16_apaulia1@TXU.COM31_Wed, 10 Sep 2003 10:14:21 -0500370_- Steve,

We have a rexx script running on a monitor server that "ATTACH"s to each Connect/Gateway and performs a test connect and disconnect to each database alias defined on that server and pages us when any test connect fails.

We have RTC's installed on user machines, these are usually checked when a problem exists specifically with that machine. [...] 4925 16 33_DBADM and creating/dropping views14_Mark McCormack27_mamccormack@STATESTREET.COM31_Wed, 10 Sep 2003 11:20:39 -0400351_us-ascii Alan Smith and Mike Holmans,

I agree with you completely.

You can take snapshots of how many threads are currently active at any single point in time, but even that will involve creating an array (or multiple flags) that will need to be incremented for each thread that happens to be running at any particular point in time. My recommendation is to download the admin guide (if you don't already have it) and focus on Appendix D--it doesn't contain the entire mapping, but it gives you the header and will help you familiarize yourself with the layout [...] 5100 29 12_Re: DSNTIJTC12_Roger Miller19_millerrl@US.IBM.COM31_Wed, 10 Sep 2003 10:46:46 -0500616_- On Wed, 10 Sep 2003 08:59:30 -0400, Don Cross wrote:

I guess they didn't get enough people to buy their utilities so now they're going to force them to get more than they want. We use several of the BMC utilities (copy, unload, load, reorg), but not all, so the diagnostic & recovery utilities would be sufficient and save us a little money. Now they're going to make us pay for the whole shebang! This stinks. Many PTFs have action holds -- manual things that need to be done or checked. I don't think they've required the catmaint since V5, though, since that's a pretty major thing to do. If you do proceed with this, you may never know what you're missing. Your zparm & dsnhdecp may need to be reassmbled, alters may need to be done, programs rebound, maintenance on other software may be required, etc. Speaking as a DB2 sysprog, it's not something I'd want to do. I think you may be mixing things up here... RSU0203 and RSU0306 are code maintenance levels for your DB2 load library (as well as clist, panels, etc.) while DSNTIJTC converts the DB2 catalog tables to be compatible with a new version's data structures... two separate processes. Once you have the catalog converted to V7, you are done with DSNTIJTC (although I think it has been been used rarely to implement catalog "changes" introduced by maintenance), If you are switching to different DB2 libraries (load modules) that are 15 months "newer" maintenance level, you really should review the SMP/E HOLD(ACTION) [...] 5303 69 12_Re: Holddata11_Tina Hilton29_Tina.Hilton@ARVATOSYSTEMS.COM31_Wed, 10 Sep 2003 11:14:46 -0500502_iso-8859-1 I always get the latest holddata when I put maintenance on.
