I've had a crash course in DB2 XML Extender this week, and am having fun decomposing data sent in XML straight into DB2 columns. If anyone is at all familiar with this beast, you might be able to help me. I have a very simple table, WORDS, with four columns, PKVAL, WORDNAME, WORDCOUNT and WORDTYPE. the information is in the catalog, check column DSNUM in SYSINDEXPART and in SYSTABLEPART. From what I've read the column is updated via Runstats.

Unfortunately, opposite to EXTENTS this column isn't present in TABLESPACESTATS, which would be much handier.

Hope this helps,

check for service db2ccs.exe being up and running (and not sure about db2jds.exe) otherwise cc will fail. I've done disabling and re-enabling data sharing at several shops. Usually it was part of testing our procedures to ensure that we could actually do them when and if the time came. It was never done simply to "save CPU". The procedure in the manual is straightforward . . . but why do it? There are many other ways to reduce CPU consumption. This tells DB2 that each of these elements is to be a separate row.

Can you find any patterns based on the where people are connecting? Is a particular range of IPs slow? Does the connection time vary even on the same machine?

It's probably worth running a trace to see what's going on under the covers. Check the Troubleshooting guide for details.

If nothing stands out there or in the db2diag.log (either on the client or server), then it's probably worth calling IBM support, particularly if the problem has coincided with a DB2 upgrade. If you have LOGAPSTG = 0 this doesn't mean it's NOT used during DB2 restart, it's used and a default of 10M of storage are reserved for FLA as if DB2 is restarting 'few' process are active so 10M of memory shouldn't be an issue. These 10M are used for DB2 'smart' log records management during DB2 restart. If LOGAPSTG > 0 DB2 will use the value in ZPARM. If you had other calls on DB2 Virtual Storage then you should be cautious about how those calls collide with the FLA memory requirement.

We (OK; I) recently turned on fast log apply (to the max - 100M?) for all our subsystems, not because I'd identified a need but because it seemed like a good thing to enable. Did the System/Disaster Recovery course recently (hope all's well at Norwich Union and BA, by the way) and the suggestion was that if the FLA storage isn't available when requested during a recovery it isn't stolen and recovery just gets on with it. Presumably if the storage is wanted by something else while a recovery is going on it ain't gonna get it, but [...] 6318 16 35_Free all plans using panel DSNEBP0933_Walter Jani=?ISO-8859-1?Q?=DFen?=27_walter.janissen@VICTORIA.DE31_Fri, 30 Apr 2004 05:58:29 -0500365_- Hi

Some hours ago, somebody erroneously put an asterik in the free plan panel and freed up almost all plans. In my 20 years DB2 life, I think, that was the second time, that someone did that (of course erroneausly). Did anybody ever use this option. Apologies, Walter. When it happens to you it's not very funny - freeing all the plans, I mean. Why the power? Dunno. Maybe IBM assumes we know what we're doing. Fatal, I know. As for getting out of the s#it, hopefully you're using packages so you haven't lost any of those, just the plans. I guess you're up for a few constructed 'select 'bind plan ('¦¦name¦¦')' from sysibm.sysplan'-type statements from another subsystem to run. Unless you've got a magic tool of some sort. Or at least is what I read. If there's not sufficient storage for a recover job (or some other other recoveries ate up all storage

But what I was going to say is, an asterisk in that panel (I think it's DSNEBP18) frees up all packages (well for which I am authorized), but without any given name or version or collection or what so ever.

It wasn't just that easy, because we use in different subsystems different entries for the package lists. And those may vary for the different plans.
