Here we use OLR for few tablespace 24x7 as I have a very large batch window so there's no need for (with exceptions) many OLR. Of course OLR doesn't mean you can execute it in ANY moment of the day......
1) I quote Dr. E. as I used inline stats but after some testing (confirmed by Dr. E's posts) I decide a separate step/job for RUNSTATS (as it was previously). If it reorg fails you've no wrong stats and you can execute RUNSTATS SHRLEVEL CHANGE if needed (I suppose you don't need the EXACT number of rows, for [...]

I always do the RUNSTATS using a separate step (shrlevel change). The mapping tables (all 8 of them) are in a segmented TS (segsize 4). As REXX is used to genarate the REORG JCL, it handles the mapping tables as well (using numbers from 1 to 8) [...]

Note that in both cases the database size is <= 10GB. This is not the scale seen at many z/OS shops, where the databases usually are measured in terabytes or picabytes.

Here are two items you might consider.
1. Do you have indices to support your foreign keys? If not, the process of looking for child rows will involve a scan.
2. You state that you use ISOLATION(CS). Do you use CURRENTDATA(YES), which is the default? Unless you require CURRENTDATA(YES), I suggest using CURRENTDATA(NO), which can often avoid locks. [...]

Ultimately no mater how much cost accounting is done the rate is going to be a guess.

020.STOPDB09
I know at one time the internal names of the DSNDB databases was part of a discussion on the listserv.
Can someone please remind me what DSNDB09 really is.

One other caveat we've encountered with delete processing on tables with RI - you need to be sure that the foreign key, if optional, has a reasonable cardinality to it, or DB2 will not use the index in it's processing.
For years, we've been modifying the catalog statistics for foreign key columns on tables where this column has an optional relationship to a parent table, in order to force the use of the foreign key index during delete and retrieval processing. The primary keys are single columns, so there's no issue with column order. We bumped into this issue [...]

4765 23 60_Error in WLM SP address space brings down DB2 V7 on z/OS 1.412_Carlos Olson23_Carlos.Olson@INOVIS.COM31_Fri, 29 Apr 2005 16:24:42 -0700391_us-ascii
After migrating from V6 to V7, DB2 immediately crashes whenever the WLM stored procedure address space times out or is refreshed. The WLM SP address space contains message "IEA705I ERROR DURING FREEMAIN SYS CODE = 978-04". xxxDBM1 has the message "DSNV086E QDS1 DB2 ABNORMAL TERMINATION REASON=00F3040C". Has anyone else experienced this after migrating from V6 to V7? [...]
4789 35 27_STATSTIME on DB2 V7 on z/OS16_Raquel Rodriguez28_raquel_rodriguezus@YAHOO.COM31_Sat, 30 Apr 2005 03:38:08 -0700527_us-ascii When is the STATSTIME column in SYSTABLESPACE updated?
RUNSTATS TABLESPACE DBNAME1.TSNAME1 TABLE (ALL) INDEX (ALL) SHRLEVEL REFERENCE REPORT YES UPDATE SPACE HISTORY NONE
Where TSNAME1 is a segmented tablespace. This updates STATSTIME in SYSTABLEPART but does not update STATSTIME column in SYSTABLESPACE.
TIA Raquel.

Details:
We have two groups of users. One group is allowed to access all the data in a table, the other group can only access a subset of rows. The group of users that can access all the rows belong to a RACF group (groupall). All other users cannot see the restricted rows. The restricted rows can be identified by a value of "M" in a column (colx). [...]

I think this would require changing all the SQL statements that access this particular table... If that is the case, this approach is very expensive and not feasible for our situation. :(

just a thought ....
