in QMF we have the possibility to interrupt a query (but how is it done), in TSO or Batch a Job or TSO-user can be canceled (not nice but possible). Now we have a lot of Web applications and sometimes it would be nice to stop a query by the user himself, because it is never ending or the query was startet by mistake. Often people close the browser window thinking all was good, but the request is still running in DB2. Is there an application driven possibility to stop such a query by any other than 'cancel thread' [...]

We had an index on a partitioned table in rebuild pending status after changing the piecesize and priqty. We did an online reorg of the tablespaces which completed successfully reallocated the index pageset using the new priqty but didn't reset the pending flag on the index. If we issue the reorg SHRLEVEL REFERENCE it again completes successfully but does reset the pending flag. This seems a little strange to me. Am I missing something or this really weird. [...]

DB2 V8 z/OS supports the Statement.cancel() method.

When calling a CICS from a COBOL DB2 stored procedure do we need to use any special call statements ? Any special preparation steps (compilation parameters etc) ?
I saw in one of the old DB2lISTSERV threads a mention that " use EXCI interface to call CICS from SP " [...]

This is true for non portioning index of partitioned table space. It is not strange. Once you alter the piecesize of nonparty index it goes to PSRBD status like
IX L* RW,PSRBD.
Only rebuilt is needed for this to reset for portioned table space.
When you alter the same for nonparty tablespace index's piecesize the status would be IX RW,RBDP. In this case simply doing a reorg tablespace also sets the status. [...]

I tend to use a regular VC32K for LOBS up to 200K (with a sequence number column). It helps a lot with the shorter LOBs. If the design says that a LOB can be 200K + then we turn to the pray mode :-) (using LOB)

Hi,
Is there anyway of limiting the amount of space a user can take up in a given tablespace. The tablespace would have many users accessing it.
TIA

Identify the users using up large space and allocate a default tablespace to that user via the GRANT USE for tablespace command.
Have more than one tablespace and allocate to groups of users i.e. small,medium and large.
Then you can ensure that all users are not being affected by a rogue user. [...]

What we did to address a similar requirement was to define a DMS tablespace with the amount of storage we were willing to allocate to the application. This ensures that if they try to load or insert data that could potentially go beyond what we want them to use, they will simply get a "SQL0289N Unable to allocate new pages in table space 'xxx'", without bringing our production environment to its knees. We currently have CTHREAD=400 and I was asked how many more threads DB2 can support. I am hoping for a formula that I could apply and come up with some rough estimate of the minimum storage and CPU overhead these additional threads would require. We are a large DB2 on z/OS shop; we also have DB2 in the midrange environment, with a limited number of instances.
DB2 on z/OS has always been supported out of the mainframe technology group and DB2 UDB out of the midrange group; two separate groups. We are looking at the idea of bringing DB2 UDB support into the mainframe group, making both groups into one. Most of our main-framers don't know LUW and most of our midrange folks don't [...]

I've worked at places where all DB2 support was in a single department, and I've worked at places where they were separate. Usually the turf battles kept the two groups separate. [...]
