We regularly capture on summary and general reports log information on sysibm tables in DSNDB06. I can find no evidence that we have captured any information on sysibm tables in DSNDB01. For example, CREATE TABLE would update sysibm tables in DSNDB06.SYSDBASE and in DSNDB01.DBD01. We seem to capture only the DSNDB06 stuff. So maybe the IBM log analysis tool does some but not all. Changes to objects in DSNDB01 must be logged. Otherwise, it would not be possible to run the RECOVER TABLESPACE utility on anything in DSNDB01. The log record format may be different from those for changes to garden-variety objects. I wouldn't be surprised since (as you point out) the catalog and directory are 'different'. My experience with the IBM Log Analysis tool indicates that it can do some things with log records on the catalog but not with those on the directory. That was what Ivan was asking about. [...]

I don't think Willie was trying to say the datasets are renamed. From a quick look at the V9 Technical Overview Redbook (SG24-7330), what I think happens on Exchange is:
1. The table names are swapped.
2. The column INSTANCE in SYSTABLESPACE is updated to show which dataset holds the base (non-clone) version of the table. [...]
