It's conceivable that the query coder actually WANTED a left-table-referencing ON-clause predicate in a left outer join to have the effect that it has, namely: to establish a further condition as to what constitutes a row-match with respect to the right side table, versus filtering left-table rows. There's a good chance that the query coder actually put the predicate in an ON clause versus a WHERE clause because he lacked understanding of the different effects of the predicate in an ON versus a WHERE [...]

I have a sql which is having lots of LOJ. One of the QUERY BLOCK shows me as Q for table type. So it says a temporay intermediary result table is required and it is queued. Now W means the temporay result table materialized. But due to the DISTINCT there is sort too. I could see [...]

This function only makes sense, if you run it immediately after you have inserted a row into a table with an identity column. Can you post a SELECT * FROM DSN_VIRTUAL_INDEXES?
Also, how did you do the explain - dynamically or REBIND of static SQL?

Pat, are you saying that we need that APAR in V9 CM in order to be able to use DSN_VIRTUAL_INDEXES? Or should it work just by virtue of the fact that we are in V9? I'm still not clear on that. I was under the impression that V9 automatically gave us this function. [...]

We have a very dynamic environment with a move to split existing Production LPARs to route more work to our Production databases via multiple DB2's.
This however has introduced a new problem. After our regularly scheduled nightly maintenance window and with ever increasing number of users that are rearing to go after DB2 as soon as it is up we have been facing severe response time delays due to vast number of DB2 dataset OPENs as soon as DB2 is available for public use. These delays occur because DB2 doesn’t have all of its files available when we [...]

DB2 supports online copy share level change, online reorg share level change, flash copy etc etc. If you are taking DB2 down or stoping databases you are shooting yourself in the foot.

I ended up deleting all the I datasets. Then doing a reorg and the reorg created I datasets.
That solved my problem. It was not as eloquent as updating the system catalog, but it worked.

Sure can.
The client side is a legacy powerbuilder app calling COBOL/DB2 stored procs through a DB2 connect server. The client doesn't connect directly to CICS. We have a CICS started task that kicks off every 15 seconds in our CICS region that checks for the existence of a row in a table. If that row is present, we write JCL lines out to the CICS internal reader. It has served us well for almost 10 years, but we're exploring taking CICS out of the loop. [...]

DB2 for z/OS Stored Procedures: Through the CALL and Beyond
The problems with stored procedures usually come from non-SQL processing - external files, etc.
Also if you click on the additional materials link on the side, you can get a lot of the source code and samples used in the redbook. [...]

Best starting point is the two redbooks. For DB2 V9

For the most part, they are great people to work with. However, their contract with the companies that use them is iron-clad -- we tried to hire one of our contractors once (this was in 2001), but the buyout price for his contract was absurd. He wound up moving to a different company that did not use Wipro so he could be freed from his Wipro prison. Be sure you find and eliminate any non-compete clauses from your contract. Also, I have heard that their vacation and time-off benefits are pretty dismal, you'll [...]

You just need to serialize access to the internal reader when it is allocated in the JCL of the WLM application environment started task. NUMTCB=1 will serialize the access to the internal reader per started task. Multiple started tasks will obviously be needed for concurrent transactions, assuming the WLM environment is set-up to allow multiple started tasks. With NUMTCB > 1 there will be less overhead in terms of started tasks needed, but then [...]

I am not too sure if I should be addressing this error as a DB2 Connect error.
We are getting an error (for data trucation) while running a particular query from one our internal web pages. But, the same query is running succesfully when I run it in either SPUFI or QMF or in DB2CLP on the client machine where the web server resides. [...]
