I have 12 DB2s (3 production and 9 non-production) and each DB2 has 32 STOGROUPs defined. My DB2 (v8) runs under z/OS 1.8. The DB2s average close to 500G each and growing. This seems excessive since it constantly requires monitoring to make sure adequate amounts of DASD are allocated to the storage groups so they do not run out of space. I did not set this up. Would it make more sense to have only one storage group per DB2 and just throw DASD into them and let DB2/SMS manage this? I have also [...]

Just 12 days ago in his post(So... When is V10 coming?), Roger Miller stated: --------------------- DB2 for z/OS V8 is out of marketing, but in service. End of service gets announced more than a year before the actual end, so V8 end of service is not coming this year, and not the next either. --------------------- [...]

If by stogroup you mean SMS storage group (as opposed to DB2-defined stogroup), then yes, you have too many. Way too many. I personally agree with the 3 storage group recommendation that you outlined, but we have condensed it even more. Here are the 4 SMS storage groups we use: [...]

Ther are many questions you have to deal with to make a decision here.
* How big are your largest tables?
* Do you have tablespaces created with DSSIZE in excess of 2GB?
* Is MVS Extended Addressing enabled (see your zOS Sysprog), so that you can have datasets larger than 2GB?
* What is your backup and Disaster Recovery strategy? [...]

I would suspect something like each stogroup has a different high level qualifer and usercat so someone can bill for dasd utilization. I would start by identifying how many of the DB2 stogroups are used.
Second - just because you have 32 DB2 stogroups does not require that you have 32 SMS stogroups. You can consolidate the DB2 user stogroups into many less SMS storage groups. I would suggest a long discussion with whoever maintains SMS. [...]

1382 36 30_Question on QMF printing issue13_Robert Knight28_bknight@REMOTEDBAEXPERTS.COM31_Wed, 30 Sep 2009 11:02:17 -0400484_us-ascii I have a user executing a query in QMF and then attempts to print the report. (Only 5 pages). Anyway the report generates correctly, he goes to print the report and receives the message that the report was printed at PTR4SA95 which is a valid printer. If he would not have this printer defined in his profile he would have received a different error. But the report does not come out. He then tested the printer with another report (non qmf) and the printer works fine. [...]

It has been a long time since I have worked on QMF but I remember that for QMF under TSO we had to issue a TSO CLOSE QMFPRINT command to get the report to come out. I setup a little procedure that issued the CLOSE and then reallocated the QMFPRINT DD which users executed after each report. If the user is on TSO have them logoff and see if the report prints. The report is probably in a printer queue waiting for paper size load, postscript processing or any of a dozen different printer characteristics. You don't mention if there were graphics involved or not.
You need to get someone who has authority to view printer queues and can verify why the report is waiting. [...]

No graphics
Will see if I can get someone to view the queues.
Thanks for the suggestions.

I was hoping someone would chime in with facts...I bet know the issue, but I don't have a clue how to fix, it's been way too long.
I bet the printer is defined in GDDM and it's a lost art as far as I'm concerned. About 10 years ago I had to add a printer to the GDDM environment. There was no set-up doc and everyone who set up the process was long gone. [...]
